CORE CONCEPTS
When it comes to power, there are four basic kinds of vehicles currently on the market, each with its own unique advantages to fit different lifestyles.

Internal Combustion Engine (ICE)
Most automobiles use gasoline to power an internal combustion engine. They're usually the least expensive to buy, but they can be more expensive to maintain and to fuel. ICE powertrains also create more tailpipe emissions than hybrid or electric vehicles.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)
HEVs use both gasoline and electric power. With help from a gasoline engine and regenerative braking, the battery stays charged up while driving. Hybrids get better fuel economy than gasoline-only vehicles, but they don't operate on electricity alone.

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)
PHEVs operate like HEVs but let you plug in and can run purely on electricity. A fully charged Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid gets a 32-mile all-electric driving range1 before switching to gasoline, helping achieve better range and efficiency than a regular gasoline-only vehicle.

Electric Vehicle (EV)
EVs have larger batteries than HEVs and drive without any gasoline or tailpipe emissions. They usually cost less to power and maintain due to relatively high gasoline prices and fewer components under the hood. Charging can take some time, so plan routes ahead of travel and charge along the way.
